At Saint Nicholas, we keep the focus to the Montessori curriculum. The prepared environment allows the child to explore and learn in the areas of practical life, language arts, mathematics, culture and geography, refinement of the sensorial skills, grace and courtesy. Great efforts have been, by the parents and the staff, to offer authentic, top-quality, Montessori didactic materials.

Through practice with these materials and by following the guidelines for respect of self, others and the environment the child grows capacity and love for learning. A deepened sense of awareness grows within and the results begin to cumulate. The uniqueness of each child further emerges as independence strengthens and empathy grows.

At Saint Nicholas, children have the freedom to spontaneously choose their ‘works’ based upon their own interest and readiness. They may choose to repeat it, complete it, or put it away unfinished. Within certain guidelines, they may choose to work at a table, a desk, or on the floor. There is a lot of freedom for movement within the Montessori Classroom.

The family style setting ensures that children feel the comforts of home, while being away from home. We hold to the ideal that we are not teaching children, we are growing adults, setting them up for life-long learning.

"Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences in the environment.”
